WANTED: A Rick Santorum Lookalike!
Wed Apr 19, 2006 at 09:01:08 PM PDT
What do Elvis and Rick Santorum have in common? Unless I'm unaware of a Vegas singing career on Santorum's part, I think the answer is
impersonators! Yes, you heard me right. A Philadelphia-based progressive organization is looking for a Rick Santorum impersonator.
Alternate Universe Land: KATHERINE HARRIS HITS A COP!! OMG!!!
Wed Apr 05, 2006 at 01:30:40 PM PDT
I think there's a perspective that many of us are missing on this whole Cynthia McKinney debacle -- and no, I don't think we should just "stop talking about it," because the MSM is already making an enormous deal about it and I think it's clear that we as a community need to know how to deal with this.
So, I am proposing an Alternate Universe scenario: What if it had been Katherine Harris who hit a Capitol cop with her cell phone?

A Case Against the NCAA Decision to Ban Indian Mascots
Sat Aug 06, 2005 at 11:36:27 PM PDT
We've all heard about it by now -- the NCAA has decided to institute a ban on
"hostile" and "abusive" Native American team names. Most would see this as a victory for liberals, but I'm here to argue that the "Indian mascot ban" isn't the smartest decision the NCAA could make. In fact, it really isn't a smart decision at all.
Newsweek: Cooper testimony could "embarass White House"
Thu Jul 07, 2005 at 09:20:39 AM PDT
MSNBC is currently linking to a
Newsweek column by Michael Isikoff and Mark Hosenball entitled with the link title
Journalists' case could embarass White House."
Of course, it's yesterday's news. But the fact that MSNBC.com is linking to it on its front page today is an extremely good sign.
The 20 People Who Are Screwing Up America
Tue Jun 21, 2005 at 01:17:53 PM PDT
RightWingNews did its version:
http://www.rightwingnews.com/archives/week_2005_06_19.PHP#004006
...and Kos is on it!
Now I encourage everyone to do their own, too. Once this thread's over I'll do some number-crunching and come up with the final count!
So...contribute!
Caveat: By "screwing up" instead of "screwed up," I believe they mean the person needs to be alive, which makes Reagan and Nixon ineligible.
And now, presenting my Top 20...
Not just another Missing White Girl.
Fri Jun 17, 2005 at 06:52:12 PM PDT
We're all annoyed about this "missing rich white girl" news story trend. Not only does coverage of these events pull airtime, paper space, and Web headlines away from legitimate news (and believe me, we have plenty of that), spread unnecessary paranoia (Shark attacks, anyone?), but it sadly has reminded those of us on DailyKos that racism and classism are all too present in a society that's supposedly "over all that."
But I'm glad that Natalee Holloway is getting coverage. And here's why.

Brown: Liberalism = Slavery
Thu Jun 09, 2005 at 06:07:05 AM PDT
I'm surprised no one has gotten to this one already (or has someone? I searched diaries and fount no results):
NYT: Latest Confirmed Nominee Sees Slavery in Liberalism
Pretty self-explanatory. But the "slavery" thing is really a gimmick. In truth she's aligning liberalism with totalitarianism, which is probably one of the most ironic things I've heard all year.
Average guy sleeps with 17 women in his lifetime?

New book: Average guy has slept with 17 women in his lifetime
While reading a DailyCandy e-mail, I clicked on the advertisement for a new book, When It Comes To Guys, What's Normal? by Bernice Kanner. And the big hook of the ad: the average guy gets laid by 17 different women in his lifetime. That statistic I don't find terribly hard to believe, considering there are a handful of men out there who probably drive the number way up, i.e. polygamists in Utah. The one I don't believe is that "92% have at least 10."
